«Park kultury» is the terminal station of the Avtozavodskaya Line of the Nizhny Novgorod Metro, opened to passengers on 15 November 1989. It is located on Molodezhnyy Avenue in Avtozavodsky District, near Kiselyov Square. Its working name during the design phase was «Zhdanovskaya».[1]

Architecture and Design

The station is of the shallow-cut type with a single-vault construction. The rectangular platform is positioned between two tracks. The vault is whitewashed and decorated along its center with large chandeliers, originally fitted with sodium lamps emitting orange light. In late 2012, most of the fluorescent lamps in the vault fixtures were replaced with energy-saving ones.[1]

The walls at the station entrance feature two decorative panels depicting Nizhny Novgorod residents at leisure. The station has two operational underground vestibules.[1] Beyond the station lies a reversing siding with two tracks.

Transport Role

«Park kultury» serves as a major transport interchange hub for Avtozavodsky District. Kiselyov Square, adjacent to the station, is the terminus for public transport routes from the Sotsgorod, Monchegorsky, Aerodromny, Yugo-Zapadny, and Strigino microdistricts, as well as from the airport and the Severny district.[1] Bus stops for urban and suburban routes are located in immediate proximity to the vestibules.[2]

Surroundings

The station takes its name from the nearby Avtozavodskiy Park of Culture and Leisure. Walking distance from the exits leads to the Palace of Culture of the Gorky Automobile Plant, the Avtozavodsky department store, the Mir cinema, and the Park Avenue shopping and entertainment center.[1]
