Military commissariats

Voenkomat (voenny komissariat, i.e. military commissariat) — a state institution responsible for conducting mobilization and conscription-registration work in the territory under its jurisdiction.

Twice a year, in spring and autumn, military commissariats hold medical examinations, on the basis of which young men are enlisted in the army for military training and compulsory service.

Essence of the institution

The main tasks of a military commissariat are:

preparing and carrying out military mobilization;
keeping records of manpower and economic resources;
preparing young people for military service;
organizing the conscription of citizens for military service and for training musters;
organizing the enlistment of citizens for military service under contract;
carrying out other defense measures.
