Kuzmin Lev Nikolaevich (born May 4, 1940, Ivanovo) — a Nizhny Novgorod engineer and entrepreneur, laureate of the USSR State Prize in 1981, and since 1991 director of the scientific-production enterprise "Mikromontazh" in Sovetsky District of Nizhny Novgorod, which manufactures patient and casualty transport equipment.[1][2][3]
Twenty-eight years in microelectronics
He graduated from the Gorky Polytechnic Institute — now the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev named after R. E. Alekseyev — in 1963 with a specialization in welding engineering, and from 1963 to 1991 worked at NIITsOP, engaged in microelectronics.[1]
The bulk of his scholarly output dates from his years at the institute: 150 academic works, including more than forty inventor's certificates for inventions in the technology of micro-assembly of electronic units and components. He became a Candidate of Technical Sciences in 1976, was awarded the title "Honorary Radio Operator of the USSR," the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1980), the USSR State Prize (1981), and since 1996 has been an academician of the Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences.[1]
"Mikromontazh"
Kuzmin launched his own business at the twilight of Soviet power: the scientific-production enterprise "Mikromontazh" was registered by the executive committee of the Sovetsky District Soviet of People's Deputies on December 24, 1991. Two more enterprises of the same family were subsequently added, and all three operate at the same address — Nartova Street, 2.[3][4]
"Mikromontazh" supplies healthcare institutions, field hospitals, and rescue services with equipment encompassing more than 150 product lines: trolley stretchers and gurney-stretchers for ambulances, receiving devices, in-facility trolleys for transporting patients and cargo, and emergency rescue kits.[2]
Separate product lines include specialized equipment for training cosmonauts and aircrew, tow trolleys for helicopters, and a system with an electric traction drive that loads a patient gurney into an ambulance without any physical effort from the operator.[2][5]

The rescue platform
In October 2013, at the Interpolitex exhibition, "Mikromontazh" unveiled for the first time the PSP-MM helicopter-suspended rescue platform; a few days later it was demonstrated at a special-units field exercise near Krasnoarmeysk.[5]
The platform accommodates ten people or one and a half tonnes of cargo and is protected by Russian Federation Patent No. 2563291. Its purpose is the insertion and evacuation of personnel in locations where a helicopter cannot land: from high-rise buildings, mountains, and forests, from water and sinking vessels, from fire zones, and for the delivery of cargo to seagoing vessels and drilling platforms.[6]
When dropped from a helicopter, the structure deploys automatically and descends on a cable between 25 and 50 metres long; transport speed when slung beneath Mi-8 and Ka-32 helicopters reaches 150 kilometres per hour.[6][7]
Exhibitions and charitable work
The enterprise regularly participates in the Moscow "Healthcare" and "Emergency Medical Services" trade fairs, exhibited in Miami in 2000, and at EMERCOM exhibitions in 2001–2004.[1]
"Mikromontazh" has supplied medical equipment free of charge to zones of natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and armed conflicts — to Yugoslavia and Dagestan in 1999 and to Beslan in 2004; the enterprise also supports orphanages and sponsors sports teams of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.[1]
