Gorky Polytechnic Institute is a higher technical educational institution that Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod) during the Soviet period. Over the years it bore the name of A. A. Zhdanov. Today the institute has been transformed into the Polytech — the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University (NSTU).
Faculties and fields of study
The institute included a shipbuilding faculty, which trained specialists for the shipbuilding and submarine engineering industries. It was at this faculty that Gennady Bolonin received his education — later one of the world's leading specialists in the design of submersible vehicles, who worked at the Central Design Bureau "Lazurit".
Faculty and research activity
The institute employed graduate students and instructors who later took up significant positions in the education and science system of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. In particular, Yuri Nikolaevich Petrov — Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences — rose at the institute from graduate student to faculty dean, and also held the positions of senior lecturer and associate professor.
