The «GAZon NEXT» is the fifth generation of medium-duty trucks from the Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ), produced since 2014.[2] Payload capacity is around five tonnes.[1] The truck's public debut took place in June 2014 at the STT-2014 construction machinery exhibition, together with the «Sadko NEXT» off-road truck from the same family.[2]
The medium-duty truck line
The «GAZon NEXT» continued the line running from the postwar GAZ-51 through the GAZ-53 and GAZ-3307: a workhorse truck for utility services, trade, agriculture, and special equipment.[1]
The name preserved the plant's own nickname for the whole line — «gazon», as the factory's trucks have been called since the 1940s.
