Course of events
On the morning of August 12, the drone danger regime was reintroduced in Nizhny Novgorod Region — according to the outlet "Zhivyom v Nizhnem" (Living in Nizhny), it was declared at 8:45.[4] Residents of Kstovo, Dzerzhinsk and Kulebaki District reported explosions; the administrations of five districts published the addresses of shelters.[4] Chkalov imposed restrictions on receiving and dispatching flights for the third day in a row.[3]
Several drones were shot down while repelling the raid. One of them fell in the courtyard of a residential complex in Nizhny Novgorod; the drone was promptly neutralized — no detonation occurred. After that, residents of the building began returning to their apartments.[1][2] According to city mayor Yuri Shalabaev, specialists worked at all the sites where drones fell; no information about casualties or damage had been received at the time of the operational reports.[1] Shalabaev urged residents to remain calm and, in case of alarming situations, to call 112.[2]
Gleb Nikitin reported that a total of 11 drones were shot down over the region during the attack on the morning and afternoon of August 12. The raid was repelled by air defense forces, electronic warfare units, and fighters of the Bars NN.[3] Nikitin characterized the situation as under control and stressed that the defense of the region's airspace continued.[3] By midday the restrictions at Chkalov Airport had been lifted, but by that time around 15 flights had been delayed.[3]
