Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day (NNID) is an annual celebration of the Nizhny Novgorod internet community, held from 1999 to 2017 by the company NN.RU, the publisher of the city website of the same name. The central event of the celebration was the awarding of the winners of the "personalities contest": the "stars" were chosen from among the twenty most visited nn.ru forums, and separate awards were presented in categories such as "Most Respected Professional" and "Most Pleasant Conversationalist." The first festivals: 1999 and 2000

The first Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day took place on Thursday, December 16, 1999, at the Rocco nightclub. It was organized by the company NN.RU, Ellips-Bank, the firms Aprel-Servis and Chayka-Servis, and the band ProEkt; the media sponsors were the program "Financial News" and the magazine Komputerra NN.[4] Admission cost 50 rubles. The program included a billiards tournament, prizes for the best themed website, for the best promotion, and for the website ranked first on Counter.nn.ru, a presentation of "Telebank NN" — Ellips-Bank's system for managing a checking account over the internet — a fashion show by the ACC modeling agency, and a disco until morning.[4] Prize drawings were held on the site: the winner of the drawing for a mouse from Aprel-Servis received two tickets to the party, where the prize was presented to him.[5]

After the party, visitors to nn.ru were asked whether it should become an annual event. Of the 157 who voted, 58.6% answered "Great idea!", and 26.1% answered "Why bother — I'll drink without a party anyway."[6]

The second party took place on December 15, 2000, in the Comedy Theater building; a ticket cost 150 rubles.[7] Guests voted with ballots in a website competition with three categories — company website, themed business project, and entertainment project. In the "Company Website" category, which had more than twenty contenders, the Bykov and Company website won.[8] The "Miss Nizhny Novgorod Internet" contest was also held that evening: the contestants were put forward by Nizhny Novgorod modeling agencies, and the winner's agency received a certificate from NN.RU for website development and advertising.[7] The guest of the party was Mikhail Gurevich, head of the Utro.ru and Relax.ru projects.[8]
