Record Film Center is an affordable cinema in the Historic Center of Nizhny Novgorod, and at the same time the cinema closest to the The Kremlin of any in the city. It is also home to an art café and exhibition center of the same name.

Besides screening masterpieces of Russian and world cinema, the film center hosts festival film screenings, holds creative meetings, photo exhibitions, and discos and the like.
History
The oldest cinema in Nizhny — the Rekord film center — is, without exaggeration, a unique institution. The building well known throughout the city, with columns on the corner of Alekseyevskaya and Piskunova streets, housed, as early as 1910, the first cinema in Nizhny Novgorod, the "Brazilian," founded by the merchant Pavel Smetanin. From 1914 it bore the name "Rekord" ("Record"). In 1938 the cinema received a new building. From 1991 it became the Nizhny Novgorod Film Center. In 1996 the film center's building was recognized as a historical monument and transferred into the ownership of the regional authorities. In 2003 it passed into the operational management of "Oblkinovideoobyedinenie" (the Regional Film and Video Association). The cinema was under renovation for over a year.
On March 25, 2005, the renovated film center reopened with the festival "Time. Motherland. Cinema," during which films by laureates of the national "Golden Eagle" award were screened. Nikita Mikhalkov, Leonid Yarmolnik, Andrei Krasko, Vladimir Ilyin, and others took part in the ceremonial opening.
Holding themed evenings and meetings with leading figures of contemporary art has become a good tradition.
Since 2007 the Rekord film center has been the main venue for poetry performances in Nizhny Novgorod: the "Strelka" festival, the "Anthology XXI" project, involving performances by leading authors of various poetic generations, and others.
