Grounds for the Award

The medal was awarded for a cycle of scientific works titled "Solving Topical Problems of Modern Theoretical Physics."[1] Vladimir Kocharovsky works at the A. V. Gaponov-Grekhov Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Nizhny Novgorod, where he heads the Department of Astrophysics and Space Plasma Physics.[2] By the time of the award, the scientist was the author of about 370 scientific publications; in 2025 he was elected a full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.[1]

The Ginzburg Medal

The RAS V. L. Ginzburg Gold Medal was established by the Academy in 2015 in honor of the Nobel laureate in physics Vitaly Lazarevich Ginzburg, who had close scientific ties with Nizhny Novgorod.[3] The award is given to Russian and foreign scientists for outstanding contributions to the development of physics and astrophysics.[1]
