Astrogor, Alexander Alexandrovich (real surname Dotsenko[1]; born 28 December 1949, Irkutsk[2][3]) is an astrologer and astropsychologist, author of books on astrology and esotericism, lecturer and head of the Volkhvy School of Russian Astrology[2][4]. He created the astrological method “Formula of the Soul” and an esoteric teaching he calls “karmic medicine”[2].

Astrogor is connected with the Nizhny Novgorod region through his summer school: in the warm season he holds classes by Lake Svetloyar, in the village of Shadrino in Voskresensky District[2][5]. One of his books, “Confession of an Ailment” (2007), was published jointly with the Nizhny Novgorod publisher Svetloyar[6].

Biography

He was born in Irkutsk[2][3]. By his first profession he is a stage director and worked at the Moscow theatre “Papa Carlo’s Little Room”[3]. Since the early 1980s he has been known as a consulting astrologer who studies the link between a person’s health and their way of life and life goals[2].

His early books also came out under his real surname: on the cover of the booklet “Energy Vampires” (1993) the author is given as “Alexander Dotsenko, Son of the Sun (Astrogor)”[1]. Since the 2000s his books have been published under the name Alexander Astrogor[7].

He lives in Moscow[2]. He heads the Volkhvy School of Russian Astrology and is a member of the Commonwealth of Professional Astrologers of Russia[2]. He teaches courses, gives consultations and lectures: in 2023 he held an author’s meeting with readers at the esoteric shop White Clouds on Pokrovka[2], and in 2025–2026 gave a series of talks there[4].

Work

Books

According to the school’s website, Astrogor is the author of 19 books[2]. Many of them appear in his series “Karmic Medicine” — treatises on the causes of illness[2][8]. They include:

“Formula of the Soul”

“Formula of the Soul” is an astrological method for assessing a person’s potential and events. It rests on the author’s interpretation of chains of planetary dispositors by rulership, that is, of the planets ruling the signs in which other planets of the horoscope stand[2]. A textbook on the method was written together with Nikolai Yumanov[11]; the computer program AstroFD was released to calculate the “formula”[2].

“Karmic medicine”

Another line of his work is a teaching he calls “karmic medicine”. In his view, an illness has a “karmic” cause: a person’s thoughts, emotions, feelings and desires are linked to the signs of the Zodiac and to the organs corresponding to them, so a person’s character and actions indicate their ailments, and understanding the cause helps to avoid the consequences[2]. About the expectations of his visitors he wrote in the preface to “Soul and Karma”: “Everyone expects a miracle from me, but I am not a wonder-worker, not a clairvoyant, not a sorcerer — I am a free artist and philosopher”[9].

This is the author’s esoteric concept, not a method of scientific medicine: it has no clinical confirmation and is neither diagnosis nor treatment in the medical sense.

Summer school at Svetloyar

In winter the Volkhvy school holds in-person courses in Moscow, and in summer classes move to Lake Svetloyar[2]. The school is in the village of Shadrino, five kilometres from the village of Vladimirskoye; from Nizhny Novgorod it is reached by suburban train to Semyonov and then by bus or minibus[2][5].

In summer 2024 Astrogor held courses there on the “Formula of the Soul”, classical astrology, “karmic medicine” and palmistry (“The Hand and the Cosmic Mystery of the Soul”), lasting four to seven days, with morning and evening classes; on completion students received a certificate. Participants could stay in the school’s own house free of charge, with “village conditions”[5].

One of the books in the series is also linked to Svetloyar: in “Tales of Vladislava from Lake Svetloyar” the story of the causes of illness is told on behalf of Vladislava, mistress of the holy lake, where, according to legend, people have long come to be healed[13].
