Key facts of his career
Founder and first head of the "Ship Theory and Hydromechanics" department (1974-1989) at the shipbuilding faculty of the Gorky Polytechnic Institute. Honorary member of the Academician A. N. Krylov Scientific and Technical Society. Known for his work on ship maneuverability and the hydrodynamics of engineering equipment for developing the continental shelf. In 1950 he graduated from the shipbuilding faculty of the Volga State Academy of Water Transport, where he began his career as a higher-education teacher and researcher. In 1954 he defended his candidate's dissertation. In 1969 he moved to work at the Gorky Polytechnic Institute, where in 1971 he defended his doctoral dissertation. He worked at the Gorky Polytechnic Institute to the end of his days.
Author of a scientific monograph and a textbook on ship maneuverability. He trained 12 candidates of science, two of whom went on to defend doctoral dissertations. On the initiative and under the active leadership of A. V. Vasilyev, a wind tunnel was designed and built at the department. The laboratory where it is installed bears his name. For his participation in combat operations he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st class, and medals.
