Key facts of his career
Within the scientific school of restorative neurology that he founded, rehabilitation programs have been developed and put into practice, based on new methods of restorative therapy for acute and chronic forms of cerebrovascular disease, syringomyelia, vertebrogenic lesions of the nervous system, myasthenia, and migraine. Of major practical and theoretical importance are the pioneering studies substantiating ozone therapy for diseases of the nervous system, the results of which are summarized in two editions of the monograph "Ozone Therapy in Neurology". He holds 20 inventions protected by author's certificates and patents, all of which have been introduced into practical healthcare. Author of 356 published scientific works, including 352 articles, 10 monographs, and 25 textbooks and manuals for physicians, among them "Acute Cerebrovascular Accidents" — 2 editions (1999, 2006), "Vascular Diseases of the Nervous System" (2006), "Epilepsy in Children and Adolescents" (2002), "Medical Genetics" — 2 editions (1998, 2003), "Comatose States" — 3 editions (1999, 2004, 2008), "Practical Neuro-ophthalmology". Under the scientific supervision of A.V. Gustov, 6 doctoral and 33 candidate dissertations have been defended.

Chairman of the Neurology Subcommission of the Central Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation for the Volga Federal District. Full Member of the Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences. Member of the Editorial Board of the "Neurological Journal" (Moscow). Laureate of the Nizhny Novgorod Prize. Awarded the medal "For the Development of Virgin and Fallow Lands".
