Zhirkombinat Highway is a thoroughfare in the Kanavino of Nizhny Novgorod, named after the oil-and-fat processing plant located on it. Its former names were Klimovskaya and Salolinskoe [1].
Former Names
The 1972 city directory "Streets of the City of Gorky" lists two former names for the highway — Klimovskaya and Salolinskoe [1]. Both belong to the category of names that described a place and the activity carried out there: following the same principle, the city had streets named Pryadilnaya (Spinning), Kanatnaya (Rope), and Torgovaya (Trading), and historic neighborhoods — Kovalikha (disambiguation) and Kuznechikha [2]. The current name continues the same logic, naming the thoroughfare after the largest enterprise on it. The Nizhny Novgorod Oil-and-Fat Processing Plant operates at Zhirkombinat Highway, 11 [3]. The plant's own website, nmgk.ru, had been running since the early 2000s and displayed the company's name in the header of its main page [4].
By August 2026, the address nmgk.ru had been redirected to the oil-and-fat business page of the Rusagro Group [5].
