The Nizhny Novgorod Fat-and-Oil Combine (NMZhK) is a major food-industry enterprise located in the Kanavinsky District of Nizhny Novgorod. Among the food-industry enterprises of the district, the combine holds a leading position: its share of the district's total industrial output is 45 percent.
Activities
The combine specializes in the production of fat-and-oil products. For many years the enterprise has been one of the key contributors to the industrial potential of the Kanavinsky District, which is home to about 260 enterprises in total, including some 30 large ones.
Corporate history
The enterprise operated under the name Gorky Fat-and-Oil Combine during the Soviet period. Nesterov Nikolai Nikolaevich (b. January 30, 1953), who was assigned to the combine after graduating from the Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute (1975), rose through the ranks from foreman in the chief metrologist's service to Chairman of the Board of Directors of the open joint-stock company Nizhny Novgorod Fat-and-Oil Combine; he also headed the Non-Profit Organization "Fat-and-Oil Union of Russia." In the late 1990s the combine found itself at the center of a corporate conflict: in November 1997 the "Nizhny Novgorod Business Site" reported that the enterprise's shareholder register had been seized.
