History
The first snapshot recorded by the web archive is dated March 16, 2016. At that time the site carried the title "City of Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhny Novgorod Region. Norwegian weather forecast site in Russian yr.no" and offered forecasts for about two dozen towns of the Region — Arzamas, Balakhna, Bogorodsk, Bor, Dzerzhinsk, Zavolzhye, Kstovo, Kulebaki, Lukoyanov, Lyskovo, Navashino, Pavlovo, Pervomaysk, Sarov, Semyonov, Sergach, Uren, Chkalovsk, the urban-type settlement of Shatki, and Shakhunya.[2] The page also explained at the time that the forecast was "provided by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation."
By January 2021 the title had changed to "Weather Forecast Nizhny Novgorod Nizhny Novgorod Region yr.no," and the list of covered locations had grown considerably: dozens of villages and settlements were added to the earlier towns — Abramovo, Aksentis, Ananye, Arefino, Brilyakovo, Buturlino, Varnavino, Vacha, Vetluga, Vladimirskoye, Voznesenskoye, Gagino, Doskino, Dubenskoye, Dudenevo, Ilyinogorsk, Lomovka, Mulino, Mukhtolovo, Naryshkino, Sakony, and others.[3] The web archive records snapshots of the site annually from 2016 through 2026 inclusive.[2]
Site Contents
The core of the site is an alphabetical catalog of settlements in Nizhny Novgorod Region with weather links to Yr.no. As of the last recorded snapshot, the catalog included Nizhny Novgorod and Strigino Airport, as well as settlements from Abramovo to Shakhunya, covering both district centers and small selos.[1] The site presents itself as a Russian-language interface to the data of the Norwegian Yr.no, which is funded from the Norwegian state budget and builds its forecasts on data from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.[3]
In addition, the pages provide climate reference information: data on wind speed, temperature conditions under winds from different directions, the duration of snow cover, and annual precipitation for Nizhny Novgorod.[1] Visitors are offered the option of requesting that a new settlement be added by sending the name of the place and its district by e-mail or via Telegram.[1]
The site's footer contains links to similar regional weather sites of the same thematic network, for Krasnodar, Kaluga, Stavropol, Irkutsk, Ryazan, Tomsk, Smolensk, Chita, Volgograd, and a number of other Russian cities, as well as for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Poland, and Estonia.[1]
Place in the City's Internet
The site is one of the few Nizhny Novgorod resources specializing in weather and using a foreign meteorological source, Yr.no, as its sole database. Yr.no is among the most accurate publicly available weather services and produces hourly forecasts for up to ten days ahead.[2] The resource nnovgorod-pogoda.ru operates as part of a network of similar regional sites covering most federal subjects of the Russian Federation.[1]
