Volodin Vyacheslav Anatolyevich (born February 21, 1948, Gorky) — a Nizhny Novgorod industrialist and materials scientist specializing in metallurgy, who from 1986 to 2018 led the Normal Plant in Kanavino — the base organization for standardizing industry aviation standards for fastening products — and holds a Doctor of Technical Sciences degree.[1][2][3][4]
At Normal from the age of eighteen
He began his working life in 1966 as an apprentice fitter, then worked as a pyrometrist, shift foreman, and head of the tool section.[1]
In 1974 he graduated from the Gorky Polytechnic Institute named after A. A. Zhdanov — now the Technical University named after R. E. Alekseev — with a specialization in "metallurgy, equipment, and technology of heat treatment of metals," and joined the Normal Plant, where he rose from shift foreman to Deputy Director General for Production.[1][2]
From 1983 to 1985 he studied at the Academy of National Economy under the Council of Ministers of the USSR, specializing in "economics, management organization, and national economic planning."[1][2]
Thirty-two years at the helm of the plant
He became General Director of the Gorky Production Association "Normal" in 1986 and remained head of the enterprise for thirty-two years.[1][2]
All changes of name and ownership form at the plant occurred during those years: in March 1992 it became the Nizhny Novgorod State Enterprise "Normal," then by presidential decree was reorganized as an open-type joint-stock company and on January 22, 1993 was registered by order of the head of the administration of Nizhny Novgorod, and in July 1996 became an open joint-stock company.[3]
The enterprise on Litvinov Street traces its history to 1881 and before the war was known as "Slavyanin," "Krasny Slavyanin," and "Krasny Tsinkovalshchik," producing nails, galvanized iron, and blanks for an aircraft plant.[3]
During the Great Patriotic War, the plant manufactured fuel and oil tanks, exhaust manifolds and pipe fittings, tail assembly and fittings components, and elevator and rudder controls for military aviation; it was confirmed as a supplier of aviation fasteners by order of the USSR Minister of the Aviation Industry on April 3, 1947, and was assigned the number 167.[3]
Today "Normal" produces fastener components with diameters ranging from 4 to 10 millimeters, made from carbon, alloy, and corrosion-resistant steels, aluminum alloys, brass, and titanium, and holds the original copies of industry aviation standards for fasteners, supplying customers with registered copies.[3]
The manufacture of fastener products remains the company's primary line of business.[5] On April 25, 2018, Anatoly Vyacheslavovich Volodin became General Director of the joint-stock company "Normal."[4]

Titanium fasteners
In 1992 he defended his candidate's dissertation, and in 2001 his doctoral dissertation: the work is devoted to the metallurgical foundations and industrial technologies for manufacturing fastening components from high-strength titanium alloys. The academic degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences was conferred in 2002.[1][2]
Author of more than eighty scholarly works, including eight monographs, thirteen inventor's certificates and patents, two of which are foreign.[1][2]
From 2002 he headed the plant-based branch of the university department "Thermophysics, Automation and Ecology of Furnaces," and later served as professor of the department "Metallurgical Technologies and Equipment" at the technical university. Member of the Academy of Quality Problems of the Russian Federation.[1][2]
