Andrey Vovk is a Nizhny Novgorod journalist and political commentator, and the author of the Telegram channel "VOVK". He runs the channel himself, without an editorial team: news and opinions on city politics, elections, sports, and life in Nizhny Novgorod.

A channel instead of an editorial team

"The author's channel of Nizhny Novgorod journalist Andrey Vovk" — that is how the channel is described, and this formula captures the entire genre: one person, their own name, their own responsibility for what is said.

As of September 2, 2026, the channel has 10,365 subscribers. For comparison, the Telegram channel of the regional newspaper Nizhegorodskaya Pravda has around nine thousand subscribers, and Vremya N News Agency has around one thousand. A single journalist with his own channel is read on a par with editorial teams backed by staff and offices.

Analyzing elections

His main subject is the balance of power in city politics. In October 2025, he appeared on Volga 24 to review the results of the City Duma elections and noted that he had named the frontrunners in each of the thirty-nine districts back in April[1].

One hundred percent accuracy.

It was already clear who would become chairman, roughly clear who would become deputies and head the committees.

Why this is noteworthy

Nizhny Novgorod political journalism long lived inside editorial offices: a commentator wrote under a publication's masthead, and his name was known only in a narrow circle. A personal channel reversed that arrangement — now people subscribe to the individual directly, and publications invite him on air as an independent expert[1].

The audience for such a channel is smaller than that of the city's news feeds, but its composition is different: these are people who want analysis, not a crime digest.
