Bykov Sergey Yevgenyevich (born September 18, 1964) is a Nizhny Novgorod-based entrepreneur and philanthropist whose activities are associated with Nizhny Novgorod and Borsky District. Since 1990 he has served as general director of "Desyaty Element" (The Tenth Element), the managing organization of a group of companies; he headed the Bor-based company "Bykov i Ko" and was the founder of the holding company "Bykov i Kompaniya," which produced alcoholic beverages. Since 2015 he has been director of JSC "Sergiyevskaya Sloboda," which constructed a residential building in the center of Bor. He is a donor to Nizhny Novgorod churches, cultural institutions, and children's facilities [1][2][3][4][5]

Education and early career

He graduated from the Gorky Higher Military Logistics School, the Kaliningrad Higher School of International Management and Business, and the "President" program at the Academy of National Economy under the Government of Russia; he is a member of the "President" professional directors' club at the academy [1].

From 1982 to 1988 he served in the Armed Forces; from 1988 to 1990 he worked as chief engineer of the Bor Food Processing Plant of the joint-stock company "Gorkvvinagroprom" [1].

According to the reference book "Who's Who in Nizhny Novgorod Region" (2009), Bykov had been heading "Desyaty Element" since 1990; the limited liability company of that name was registered in 2003 [1][2].

"Bykov and Co" and the Holding

The open joint-stock company "Bykov i Kompaniya" (abbreviated "Bykov i Ko") was registered in Bor on 16 June 1995 at 58a Lenina Street; Bykov was listed as its general director. On 27 May 2005 the company was liquidated pursuant to an arbitration court ruling concluding bankruptcy proceedings [3][4].

On 21 July 2000, at the same address, OAO "Bykov i Kompaniya-Holding" was registered with an authorized capital of 50,231,000 rubles; its primary line of business was the production of distilled alcoholic beverages, with wholesale and retail trade in alcohol as supplementary activities. Bykov was among the founders [6][11]. The holding owned the trademark "BYKOV BYKOV I KO" (No. 325225), registered on 26 April 2007 under a 2005 application for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, juices, meat and dairy products, advertising, and entertainment; the protection term expired on 24 February 2015 [11][12]. On 7 July 2014 the holding was liquidated upon completion of bankruptcy proceedings [6].

Bykov also founded other companies: OOO "Bor-Trans" (freight haulage, 2000–2008), OOO "Boldinskie Kolbasy" in the settlement of Kudma, Bogorodsky District (2004–2013), OAO "Bykov i Kompaniya" in the village of Zeletsino, Kstovsky District, which produced cider and fruit wines (2004–2008), and the agricultural cooperative "Iskra" in Bolsheboldinsky District, transformed in 2003 into OAO "Agrofirma Boldino" [3][13][14].

"The Tenth Element," "Vremena Goda," and "Pervaya Russkaya"

OOO "Desyaty Element" was registered on 11 August 2003 at Moscow Highway, 37; Bykov was its sole participant. The authorized capital was ten thousand rubles, and the primary line of business was listed as the provision of miscellaneous services. On 21 May 2012 managerial authority passed to a bankruptcy administrator, and on 10 June 2013 the company was liquidated pursuant to an arbitration court ruling concluding bankruptcy proceedings [2].

From 2007 to 2014, Bykov headed the consulting LLC "Alternativnaya Direktsiya" at Rozhdestvenskaya Street, 30 [3]. Later, he founded and led two companies named "Vremena Goda" ("Seasons of the Year") in Borsky District: the first, registered on August 19, 2013, was removed from the register as inactive on June 13, 2018; the second, registered on December 11, 2014, and engaged in wholesale trade of juices and mineral water, was removed on July 17, 2020 [7][8][3]. From March 4, 2016, he served as director of the Bor-based LLC "Pervaya Russkaya," a juice producer that was removed from the register on May 14, 2018 [9].

"Sergievskaya Sloboda"

JSC "Sergievskaya Sloboda" was registered on February 25, 2015, in Bor, at 58a Lenina Street, with an authorized capital of 40,036,800 rubles; Bykov has been its director since the day of registration [10]. The company takes its name from the neighboring Orthodox spiritual and educational center: the churches of Sergius of Radonezh and the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos were restored in 2014; in 2015, the complex was visited by Patriarch Kirill, and it is a regional-level architectural monument [15][5].

Next to the center, the company built a business-class residential building. In September 2017, according to Bykov, approximately one third of the work had been completed — the semi-underground parking garage was ready. The project, developed by Nizhegorodsky Promstroyproekt", whose works, as Bykov noted, include the Nizhny Novgorod Circus, provided for 122 apartments, 163 parking spaces, and a car-free courtyard; the building was to be delivered in autumn 2018 [5].

In May 2020, the building was 60% complete, and more than fifty of the 124 apartments had been sold; construction was financed with funds from equity participants and the company's own resources [16]. In the autumn of the same year, a publication reported that Bykov visits the construction site daily [17]. The building was put into operation in the first quarter of 2023 instead of the planned fourth quarter of 2022; according to the Domostroy portal, it contains 149 apartments, all of which have been sold [18].

Previously, according to Bykov, an alcoholic beverages plant had operated on the site for 13 years (12 years, according to a 2020 publication) [5][16]. In November 2022, insolvency proceedings were initiated against JSC "Sergievskaya Sloboda"; in May 2023, the company returned to active status [19]. In 2023–2024, Bykov also served as director of LLC "Specialized Developer 'Estetika Goroda'"; as of September 2026, he heads one active organization — JSC "Sergievskaya Sloboda" [3].

Philanthropy

He assisted cultural and sports institutions, orphanages and schools, theatres, low-income residents and veterans; supported Nizhny Novgorod festivals; provided material support to Diveevo Monastery and financial support to law-enforcement agencies [1].

He took part in the restoration of the Church of the Holy Trinity in the selo of Kantaurovo in Borsky District; together with the Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas Diocese he hosted the television programme "Azbuka pravoslaviya" ("ABC of Orthodoxy") and organised Orthodox sacred music festivals [1].

The Kantaurovo church was consecrated on 17 September 2019 by Archbishop George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas — for the first time in its 372-year history with the full episcopal rite [20].

He served as a sponsor of the publications "The Bor Forest Zavolzhye in the 17th Century" and "The Nizhny Novgorod Region in Russian Chronicles of the 9th–18th Centuries" [1].
