"Family Quarter" is a multidisciplinary medical clinical center (MMCC) being built in Nizhny Novgorod on Berezovskaya Street. The project is being carried out under the national project "Family"; construction and renovation have been under way since 2025 and are scheduled to be completed by 2028. The total cost of the project is estimated at 6 billion rubles.[1]
Composition and objectives
The MMCC will incorporate several healthcare institutions located on Berezovskaya Street: two multidisciplinary hospitals, three outpatient clinics, four women's clinics, a Maternity Hospital No. 3, the region's first state-run in vitro fertilization (IVF) center, and a Center for Adolescent Reproductive Health. The state IVF center will be located in Hospital No. 28, which is being renovated as part of the first phase of the project.[2][3] The complex is conceived as a "one-stop shop" for addressing the reproductive health needs of women, men, and adolescents; in addition to the reproductive services, the adult and children's outpatient clinics will continue to operate.[3]
Governor Gleb Nikitin reported the creation of the region's first state-run IVF center to President Vladimir Putin at a working meeting on August 28, 2026, during the president's visit to Nizhny Novgorod for the forum "Strong Ideas for a New Time."[4][1]
Progress of construction
The first stage began in 2025: major renovations are underway at the hospital buildings on Berezovskaya Street and at Maternity Hospital No. 1 No. 5, which is slated to be converted into a premium-comfort maternity hospital with family and individual rooms. The purchase of new furniture and medical equipment is due to be completed by the end of 2026; at the same time, the external utility networks are being updated throughout the entire block.[3] Later stages call for renovating the remaining buildings of the Interdistrict Medical Clinical Center (MMKTs), refurbishing Children's Clinical Hospital No. 27 (which will house a Center for Adolescent Reproductive Health), and landscaping the surrounding grounds.[3]
In August 2026, Governor Nikitin, the head of the regional Ministry of Health Galina Mikhailova, and the MMKTs chief physician Natalia Zelyaeva personally inspected the progress of the work; following the inspection, the schedule of works was discussed with the contractor.[3]
Place in the Region's System of Medical Clusters
"Family Block" is one of three large medical clusters being developed in Nizhny Novgorod. Two other projects are being carried out in parallel: "City of Health" (based at Semashko Hospital, including the construction of a surgical building for oncology) and "Health Block" (based at the regional children's clinical hospital and the cardiology center on Vaneev Street).[5][3]
By the time "Family Block" was launched, waiting lists for free IVF had been completely eliminated in Nizhny Novgorod Region; every third procedure is additionally co-funded by the regional budget.[2]
As of 2025, more than 640 children had been born thanks to IVF procedures carried out in the region.[2]
