The high-profile incident of 2025
On March 11, 2025, a stabbing took place during a Russian language lesson at School No. 117 and drew wide public attention. In connection with the incident, a criminal case was opened against the school's then-director, Tatyana Feoktistova. On September 17, 2026, the Sormovo District Court of Nizhny Novgorod found her guilty.
The court established that Feoktistova had instructed her subordinates to remove the stationary metal detectors from the school's entrance, which allowed a student to bring in two knives and injure two classmates; the head of Nizhny Novgorod, Shalabayev Yuri, noted that the metal detector frame, although in working order, was not functioning.[3]
Under the verdict, Feoktistova was sentenced to three years and two months of imprisonment, suspended, with a two-year probationary period; criminal cases had been opened under articles on attempted murder and negligence, and the two injured teenagers were hospitalized.[3]
