The Sormovo District Court is a federal court of general jurisdiction in Nizhny Novgorod, operating since 1961. It hears civil, criminal, and administrative cases within the territory of Sormovo District. Administratively, it is part of the judicial system of the Nizhny Novgorod Region of the Volga Federal District.[3]

History

Before 1961, Sormovo District operated under a precinct system: the district was divided into four precincts, each with its own people's court headed by a people's judge. In 1961, the precinct system was abolished and a unified Sormovo District People's Court of the City of Gorky was established, headed by a court chairman.[3]

In 1994, following the dissolution of the Council of People's Deputies of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the transfer of its functions to the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Region, the court received its current name — the Sormovo District Court of the City of Nizhny Novgorod.[3]

Place in the Judicial System

As a district court, it belongs to the lowest tier of the federal courts of general jurisdiction. Sitting as a court of first instance, it hears all civil and criminal cases except those within the jurisdiction of higher courts or justices of the peace, as well as administrative cases. In addition, it serves as the immediately superior instance with respect to the justices of the peace of the Sormovo judicial district and hears appeals against decisions of justices of the peace that have not yet entered into legal force.[3] The Sormovo judicial district comprises eight justice-of-the-peace court precincts, located at 56a Vasiliya Ivanova Street.[4]

Authority and Composition

The court is chaired by Lebedev Denis Nikolayevich; the deputy chairpersons are Dmitriyeva Galina Vladimirovna and Kondratenko Sergey Anatolyevich.[3] Among the judges listed on the SudAkt portal are Verner Lyudmila Valeryevna, Mushak Elena Sergeyevna, Polidorsky Andrey Anatolyevich (also a deputy chairperson), and Solodovnikova Svetlana Vladimirovna.[2]

Location and Contact Information

The court operates at two addresses: the criminal cases registry is at 29 Stanislavskogo Street; the civil cases registry is at 63 Svobody Street, Office 10. From 12 January 2026, the receipt and issuance of all documents in cases of any category is handled through a single-window service at 63 Svobody Street, Office 10.[1] Office hours: Monday–Thursday 08:00–17:00, Friday 08:00–16:00, lunch break 12:00–12:48.[4]
