gama-nn.ru is the website of the Nizhny Novgorod river cruise company GAMA: river cruises on the Volga, the Oka, and the Kama aboard its own ships, river excursions, banquet ship rentals, and online booking [1][2]. The GAMA group of companies has operated in the tourism market since 1994, and its head office is located in Nizhny Novgorod [2][3].
History
GAMA LLC was registered in Nizhny Novgorod on August 10, 1994; its main line of business according to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (EGRYuL) is the activity of travel agencies [4]. The domain gama-nn.ru was registered in July 2011 [5]. The earliest surviving copy of the site in the web archive dates to April 22, 2012: the site called GAMA a Russian cruise tour operator and offered river cruises, bus tours, the Volga guest house, seaside vacations, foreign tours, and sea cruises; its news section featured a cruise to the Urals along the Kama and the Volga to Perm aboard the ship A. Sveshnikov and a bus tour to Chkalovsk and Palekh [6].
In 2017 the site opened with a quick river cruise search with a choice of departure city — from Astrakhan and Kazan to Saint Petersburg and Sevastopol — and a long list of route stops [7]. In 2021 the site was titled "River Cruises from the Tour Operator GAMA"; besides cruises, its menu included ship rental, the Volga country hotel, the Yantar rehabilitation center, vacations in Russia, sea cruises, foreign tours, and the GAMAcard bonus program, while the list of the company's ships included A. S. Popov, Aldan, Alexander Sveshnikov, Afanasy Nikitin, Oktyabrskaya Revolyutsiya, Ivan Kulibin, and the banquet ships Sura, KolyosovЪ, and DobrokhodЪ [8]. The company's offices were then listed in Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow, Astrakhan, Samara, Saratov, Cheboksary, and Yaroslavl [8].
The Company and Its Fleet
The home page currently offers cruises with a choice of ten departure cities, cruise search, excursions, wellness tours, corporate programs, and gift certificates; the cruise liner "Zolotoye Koltso" and the paddle steamer "Aurum" have been added to the earlier fleet [1]. According to the company's account on its "About the Company" page, its cruise fleet consists of 8 tourist and 3 banquet motor ships [2]. Since 2007, GAMA has been building paddle-wheel banquet motor ships of its own design, PKS-40: the "Sura" was launched in 2011, the "KolyosovЪ" opened the navigation season in 2014, and the "DobrokhodЪ" began operating in 2015 [2]. In 2017, the group signed contracts with JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation for the construction of two passenger cruise paddle-wheel vessels of the PKS-180 design: the liner "Zolotoye Koltso" entered service in 2023, and the "Aurum" in 2024 [2].
In October 2024, a remote ship control system was tested aboard the "DobrokhodЪ," and on February 11, 2025, the keel was laid for an electric passenger vessel with an autonomous control system, design PKS40.2 [2]. The group also includes the Volga country hotel, 14 km from Nizhny Novgorod, and the Yantar medical rehabilitation center, opened in September 2018 [2].
Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin said in August 2026 that the construction of the shallow-draft motor ships "Zolotoye Koltso" and "Aurum" made it possible to revive the circular cruise route along the Volga and the Oka [9].
