On this day in 2012, NNOV disconnected more than 11,000 domains in the NNOV.RU zone that had not been renewed by their owners by the specified deadline.
The cost of renewing a domain was 600 rubles.
The essence of the matter
Despite repeated reminders, only about 500 domains were renewed, mostly by petition and free of charge for non-profit organizations, and only 133 domains were paid for.
At the end of the month all unpaid domains will be deleted. During this period a 100-ruble discount applies, meaning that reactivating a domain and renewing it for a year will cost 500 rubles.
Registering a new domain costs 1,000 rubles.
Background
In 2009 the geographic domain NNOV.RU became private and passed into the ownership of VimpelCom LLC. From that time registration of new domain names was closed. In August 2011, VimpelCom LLC signed an agreement with NNOV, which took over management of the NNOV.RU domain zone.
Registration of domain names in this zone is currently open, and the company NNOV also offers to renew existing domain names.
