Pyotr Afanasyevich Vedenetsky (Vedentsov) was a Nizhny Novgorod artist of the late 18th — early 19th century, founder of the Vedenetsky artistic dynasty. He is significant to Nizhny Novgorod culture as the author of church murals and the founder of one of the first private art studios in Russia.

Pyotr Afanasyevich Vedenetsky is known as the author of the murals of the Krestovozdvizhenskaya and Ponetayevskaya chapels in Nizhny Novgorod; neither work has survived to the present day.
Around 1797, Vedenetsky opened one of the first private art studios in Russia, where he provided professional artistic training. His son Pavel Petrovich Vedenetsky (Vedentsov; 1791 — after 1857) studied at this studio and later became a noted historical painter and portraitist. Upon reaching the age of sixteen, Pavel was sent by his father to Alexander Stupin's Arzamas school of painting, and in 1810, on the strength of a certificate from Stupin, he took up a post as drawing teacher at the District School in Nizhny Novgorod.
