The «Polesye» is a shallow-draft river hydrofoil of Project 17091 designed for small rivers, developed by the Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoil Ships named after R. E. Alexeyev. It was built at the Gomel Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard starting in 1983; some of the vessels later worked on the Amur River and in China. [1][2]
Successor to the «Belarus»
The «Polesye» continued the line begun by the Belarus (ship))»: a vessel for small rivers, able to operate at depths unreachable by larger winged craft. The Gomel yard, which had mastered this class back in the 1960s, remained its main builder. [1]
The Far East and China
Some of the series' vessels ended up on the Amur River, where the «Polesye» boats worked routes to the Chinese shore, and later in China itself. The vessels later underwent modernization: replacement of power plants and refitting of the cabins. [1][2][3]
