JSC PKO Teploobmennik is a Nizhny Novgorod aviation company specializing in the development and manufacture of life support systems for airplanes and helicopters. It was founded in 1941, when the plant was evacuated from Solnechnogorsk, near Moscow, to Gorky.[1]
History
In the fall of 1941, the plant was moved from Solnechnogorsk and rebuilt at its new site in less than a month. During the Great Patriotic War, the company produced radiators for aircraft, tanks, and ships, and introduced flow-line assembly. For exemplary fulfillment of government assignments, the plant was awarded the Order of the Red Star. After the victory, production was expanded: the company set up the manufacture of radiators for tractors and combine harvesters.[1]
In the following decades, with the development of domestic aircraft manufacturing, the plant concentrated on aviation: the shops were reconstructed, equipment modernized, and production automated, and its own design school took shape. In the 1990s, faced with a sharp drop in state defense orders, the company launched civilian products — gas stoves, water heaters, and other consumer goods — while preserving the personnel and production capacity for its aviation work.[1]
Products and projects
The company's priority is the development and manufacture of multicomponent life support systems that maintain normal conditions in the crew cabins and passenger compartments of aircraft. The systems include heat exchangers, turbo-coolers and turbocompressors, gasifiers, shutoff and control equipment, and digital control units. On a number of projects, the company acts as lead developer.[1]
Products bearing the Teploobmennik brand are installed on virtually all domestic aircraft. The company takes part in the SuperJet-100, SuperJet NEW, MC-21, Il-114, and Mi-38 projects, works with all Russian aircraft-building corporations and the largest aircraft manufacturing holdings worldwide, and is also engaged in import substitution for a number of components. For 2021, JSC PKO Teploobmennik was awarded a diploma in the "Aircraft Builder of the Year" competition in the category "For Success in Developing Production Diversification"; the award ceremony, organized by the Union of Aircraft Manufacturers of Russia, took place on October 25, 2022, in Moscow. Two works by specialists of the company's experimental design bureau on import substitution within the Sukhoi SuperJet NEW program were submitted to the competition.[3][3][1]
Scientific and technical base
A significant part of the research and development work is funded by the company itself. As of 2021, the general director and chief designer of JSC PKO Teploobmennik was Tyatinkin Viktor Viktorovich.[1]
In 2002, on his initiative, a corporate exhibition center (the plant's museum) was opened at the enterprise; it marked its 20th anniversary on February 14, 2022. The exhibit occupies two floors and includes more than 800 items — industrial and household products, as well as aviation artifacts. The exhibition center serves as a venue for lectures, open physics classes, and themed exhibitions; it is regularly visited by delegations of Russian and foreign partners, representatives of the city and regional administrations, and university and school students.[4][4]
