Ostapovo was a former village in Chkalovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Region, part of the Purekh selsoviet (rural council) of the urban okrug of the city of Chkalovsk. In 2017 it was abolished by merging with the selo of Purekh.[1]

The village was located in the western part of Nizhny Novgorod Region, in the zone of coniferous-broadleaf forests, on the left bank of the Kolesenka River, approximately 15 kilometers southwest of Chkalovsk. Its absolute elevation was 109 meters above sea level. Coordinates: 56.651606° N, 43.058228° E.[3]
Population
According to the 2010 All-Russian Population Census, the village had 71 residents; by the time of the merger with Purekh (2017), the population had dropped to 53.[2] According to the 2002 census, Russians made up 99% of the population.[3]
Merger with the selo of Purekh
On July 27, 2017, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Region voted to incorporate the village of Ostapovo into the selo of Purekh, creating a single settlement called the "selo of Purekh."[1] The initiative came from the village's own residents.[2]
The explanatory note to the bill stated that Ostapovo and Purekh had in effect merged: both settlements were supplied with electricity from a single 10 kV line (No. 1036), the road to the village ran through the selo, and Ostapovo residents used the stores, hospital, pharmacy, school, kindergarten, Sberbank branch, and cultural facilities located in Purekh. The engineering, transportation, and social infrastructure of the two settlements had become one.[1] A survey of residents confirmed their support for the merger.[1]
At the time the decision was made, Purekh Village Council comprised 30 settlements with a total population of 1,942 people, of whom 1,439 lived in Purekh and 53 in Ostapovo.[1]
