The linen-spinning manufactory of the Nizhny Novgorod Linen-Spinning Manufactory Partnership was an industrial enterprise constructed in 1898–1910 on the historic territory of Molitovka (now within the city limits of Nizhny Novgorod). In 1922, the factory was renamed "Krasny Oktyabr" (Red October). Several buildings of the complex have been recognized as objects of cultural heritage of regional significance and placed under state protection.[3]

History

Construction of the factory complex was carried out in 1898–1910 on the territory known as Molitovka.[3] At the time of its opening, the enterprise employed 39 people; by 1901, the workforce had grown to 1,322.[3] Certain buildings of the complex were constructed to the design of architect N. (initials incompletely preserved in the sources) in approximately 1909–1910.[3] In 1922, the factory received the Soviet name "Krasny Oktyabr."[3]

Buildings of the Complex and Their Addresses

The complex comprises several surviving buildings on Motalny Lane. The main factory building is located at 8 Motalny Lane (construction dated to 1900).[3] The office with staff apartments is located at 6 Motalny Lane (unit A).[1][2] The warehouse is located at 10 Motalny Lane (unit A).

Heritage Status

The manufactory buildings are entered in the Unified State Register of Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of the Russian Federation as monuments of regional significance. Demolition of the buildings is prohibited; any works carried out on them require a state historical and cultural assessment and an approved project.[3]

By Decree No. 289 of the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Region dated 10 April 2020, a regulated development and economic activity zone was established around the warehouse building (10 Motalny Lane). By Decree No. 147 dated 5 March 2022, similar protection zones were established for the office with staff apartments (6 Motalny Lane).[1]
