The Nizhny Novgorod Committee of the RSDLP was a local organization of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party operating in Nizhny Novgorod in the early 20th century. The committee directed illegal social-democratic work in the city and the surrounding province, coordinated agitation, and maintained ties with party structures along the Volga.
Activity
By 1900, illegal social-democratic work was underway in Nizhny Novgorod and Sormovo: local activists maintained contact with workers of the Krasnoye Sormovo Plant — Zalomov, Dorofeyev, Bulatov, and others. In 1900–1901, a conference of Volga party organizations was organized in Nizhny Novgorod.
From 1902, Vasily Alekseyevich Desnitsky joined the Nizhny Novgorod Committee of the RSDLP; in 1904–1905 he became one of the leaders of the Nizhny Novgorod social-democratic organization, acting as an agitator and party writer.
Connection to party-wide events
Desnitsky was delegated by the Nizhny Novgorod group to the 1st Congress of the RSDLP (1898, Minsk), but did not make it there — he failed to receive the safe-house address in time. In 1903 he was sent as a delegate to the 2nd Congress, but on 25 June he was arrested while crossing the Russian-Austrian border and deported back to Nizhny Novgorod.
Among the participants in the illegal social-democratic work in Nizhny Novgorod and Sormovo during the same period was Anton Feliksovich Voitkevich, arrested on 15 April 1901 in connection with the distribution of proclamations at the Sormovo Plants on 11 September 1900.
