Milovsky Nikolay Dmitriyevich (February 19, 1940 — October 3, 2026) was a Nizhny Novgorod physicist, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrodynamics at the Faculty of Radiophysics of Gorky State University (later Lobachevsky University), Dean of the Faculty of Radiophysics from 1975 to 1978, and Honored Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation. He died in his 87th year.[1]
Scientific and Teaching Career
In 1962, Milovsky graduated with honors from the Faculty of Radiophysics of Gorky State University and entered postgraduate study.[1] Upon completing it, from 1964, he worked for more than 60 years at the university's Department of Electrodynamics.[1] In 1973 he defended his Candidate's dissertation, and in 1977 he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor.[1] From 1975 to 1978 he served as Dean of the Faculty of Radiophysics.[1]
Over the years, Milovsky published more than 130 scientific works; his main research area was laser physics. In addition to scientific articles, he held inventor's certificates for inventions.[2] At the faculty he was known as one of the best lecturers and a vivid personality who left a mark on the lives of many generations of graduates.[1]
Government and Public Service
From 1995 to 2002, while remaining a university employee, Milovsky headed the Department of Physical Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Nizhny Novgorod Region administration.[1]
Alongside his scientific career, he was involved in sports: he was a Master of Sport of the USSR in water polo and a member of the Russian Water Polo Federation.[2] As part of the RSFSR national team, he took part in 19 international matches and two Spartakiads of the Peoples of the USSR; as part of the Nizhny Novgorod Region team, he competed in six Russian Spartakiads and 29 RSFSR championships.[2] From 1995 to 2001, he headed the Nizhny Novgorod Region Water Polo Federation.[1]
Milovsky is considered the founding father of Radiofak Days, the traditional festival of the Faculty of Radiophysics of Lobachevsky University.[2]
Remembrance
The death of Milovsky was announced by the press service of Lobachevsky University.[3] The farewell ceremony took place on October 6, 2026, at 12:00 in the ritual hall of the Bugrovskoye Cemetery in Nizhny Novgorod.[1]
