music.nn.ru was the music website "Music in Nizhny" ("Музыка в Нижнем"), a 2000–2001 project of the Nizhny Novgorod internet company NN.RU: the footer read "(c) project by 'NN.RU'," and the window title promised "Music, news, tours, scandals."[1]
What was on the site
In spring 2000 the site was called "www.music.nn.ru — mp3, real audio" and kept a "Top Internet Albums" list (in March, Modern Talking's "Year of Dragon" held the top spot, followed by DDT's "Metel avgusta"), disc reviews, and a CD catalog. The general sponsor of the server was the Nizhny Novgorod Audio Video Company: discs could be bought at the "TON" shop in the Sports Palace, at a small-wholesale warehouse on Kostina Street, at the "Melodiya" store on Gorky Square, and at Lukoil and Volgapetroleum gas stations, and the entire catalog was posted as an Excel file.[1]
On June 20, 2000, the server got a new design, news subscription, and search. In summer and fall 2000 it ran daily music news, a hit parade compiled by "Russkoye Radio in Nizhny Novgorod" (with "Gosti iz budushchego," "Demo," and "Bi-2" in the top rows), a contest backed by the band "Gosti iz budushchego," mp3 excerpts, a guestbook, a chat, and links to the performers' official websites.[1][2]
Fate of the address
In March 2002, the address music.nn.ru displayed a temporary page: the server was "undergoing deep rethinking" in connection with the move of the DNS and some NN.RU projects to Moscow hosting, while www.nn.ru and business.nn.ru remained in Nizhny Novgorod.[3] By 2013, the site's former addresses redirected to the music player of the www.nn.ru portal.[4]
