Sergushev Mikhail Sergeyevich (born Markel Prokopyevich Aksyonov; 1886, village of Korovino, Fryazino Volost, Bogorodsky Uyezd, Moscow Governorate — 30 October 1930, Moscow) — a revolutionary and party figure who headed the Nizhny Novgorod Governorate party organization in 1919. He entered the city's history primarily as one of the leaders of the Bolshevik movement in Sormovo (disambiguation) during the pivotal years of the Revolution and the Civil War.[1]

Revolutionary Activity before 1917

Markel Aksyonov RSDLP in 1904. His revolutionary work began at the Riga Porcelain Factory. In December 1905 he took part in revolutionary demonstrations, for which he was sentenced by a court in March 1907 to exile in the Turukhansk Region. There, in 1913, he Sverdlov. That same year, an amnesty to mark the 300th anniversary of the House of Romanov allowed him to go free; however, in 1916 he was arrested again and administratively exiled once more to the Turukhansk Region. Work in Sormovo and Leadership of the Nizhny Novgorod Organization

In July 1917, Ya. M. Sverdlov, who at that time headed the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, sent Aksyonov to Sormovo. In connection with the mobilization announced by the Provisional Government, he changed his surname with the approval of the party committee and became Mikhail Sergeyevich Sergushov (the spelling "Sergushev" is also found). From July to December 1917 he served as chairman of the Sormovo Committee of the RSDLP(b); on 13 August 1917 he was elected secretary of the Sormovo Bolshevik Committee following a Demonstration. In November 1917, after the Bolshevization of the Nizhny Novgorod Soviet, Sergushov was additionally co-opted into the Sormovo Soviet.[1]

At the 2nd Nizhny Novgorod Governorate Party Conference, which opened on 16 December 1917, Sergushov was elected secretary of the Governorate Committee and assumed his duties on 20 December. From January 1918 to July 1919 he served as deputy chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Governorate Committee. At the 7th Nizhny Novgorod Governorate Party Conference on 25 July 1919, he was elected chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Governorate Committee of the RSDLP(b) — RCP(b). He held the post until 3 September 1919; his predecessor was L. M. Kaganovich and his successor was A. I. Taganov. On 25 August 1919, a session of the Organizational Bureau of the Central Committee of the RCP(b) considered the transfer of a group of Nizhny Novgorod workers to Voronezh, and in September 1919 Sergushov traveled there together with Kaganovich, F. M. Mordovtsev, and Ya. M. Vorobyov.[1]

Later Career

From November 1919 to October 1920, Sergushov served as responsible secretary of the Voronezh Governorate Committee of the RCP(b). In 1920–1921 he worked in Turkestan: he was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Turkestan and headed its Organizational-Instructional Department. Until 1923 he was an instructor of the Central Committee of the RCP(b), after which he underwent medical treatment. From 1924 he headed the Organizational-Instructional Department of the Central Control Commission of the RCP(b). From 31 May 1924 to 30 October 1930 he was a member of the Central Control Commission of the RCP(b) — VKP(b) and an unscheduled inspector of the People's Commissariat of the Workers' and Peasants' Inspection of the RSFSR; from December 1927 he was a member of the Party Collegium of the Central Control Commission of the VKP(b). He served as a delegate to the 7th through 16th Congresses of the VKP(b). He died on 30 October 1930 in Moscow.[1]
