Lev Alexandrovich Zelenov (July 19, 1933, selo Sarley, Dalnekonstantinovsky District, Gorky Krai — September 9, 2021, Nizhny Novgorod) was a Soviet and Russian philosopher, specialist in aesthetics, social philosophy, and sociology, and a poet. He founded the academic school "Methodology of Human Studies."[1]

Philosophical Activity

Zelenov worked in Nizhny Novgorod (Gorky) as a lecturer in aesthetics and philosophy. In 1969, he founded the philosophical club "Universum" on the basis of his previously established "Scientific Club of Aesthetics" at the Gorky Engineering and Construction Institute. The club united the Nizhny Novgorod intelligentsia — primarily university lecturers — and for decades was engaged in developing concepts of one's relationship to the world.[1] Zelenov led "Universum" for more than forty years; under his direction, the club became a regular venue for "brainstorming sessions," the results of which were published or realized in practice.[1]

Academic School

Zelenov was a professor and the founder of the academic school "Methodology of Human Studies," within which he developed problems of aesthetics, social philosophy, and sociology. Zelenov taught the history and philosophy of science to postgraduate students and degree candidates at the Nizhny Novgorod University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (NNGASU), at the Department of Philosophy and Political Science.[2][1] Participation in his club influenced a number of Nizhny Novgorod researchers and practitioners; among them was entrepreneur and amateur philosopher Andrei Golovinsky, who became the author of several publications on the philosophy of human existence, in part owing to discussions at "Universum."[1]

Zelenov also headed the board of curators of the Scientific Society of Students "Evrika" of the city of Nizhny Novgorod, serving as chairman of the board of curators from May 31, 1993 to May 3, 2001.[3]
