The "Kometa 120M" is a modern hydrofoil passenger vessel of project 23160, designed by the Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoil Ships named after R. E. Alexeyev), which inherits both the name and the layout of the Soviet-era Kometa (ship)))". The lead vessel was laid down in 2013 at the Vympel shipyard in Rybinsk, launched in 2017, and has been carrying passengers on the Sevastopol — Yalta line since August 2018. [1][2]
The name returns
After two decades during which almost no hydrofoil passenger vessels were built in the country, the Nizhny Novgorod bureau returned to naval themes with project 23160. The name was no accident: the "Kometa" had been the best-known Soviet hydrofoil abroad, and the new vessel was presented as a direct continuation of that line. [1][2]
The lead vessel was laid down in 2013 in Rybinsk, launched in 2017, and has been operating on the Black Sea line Sevastopol — Yalta since August 2018. [1][2]
