«Torpedo-Gorky» is a Nizhny Novgorod ice hockey club competing in the Vysshaya Khokkeynaya Liga (VKhL — the Supreme Hockey League). It was founded in 2019 as a farm club and partner club of HC Torpedo within the Nizhny Novgorod hockey system.[5] It is legally registered as the autonomous non-profit organization "Hockey Club 'Torpedo-Gorky'."[4] The home arena is the V. S. Konovalenko Palace of Sports (10 Loskutova Street; capacity 3,820 spectators).[5]

History

The club's first ever match took place on August 25, 2019: Torpedo-Gorky hosted the Sakhalin team at home and won 3–1. The visitors opened the scoring in the fourth minute — the goal was scored by Aleksandr Petrov, assisted by Torpedo academy product Valeriy Zhukov. In the second period, Denis Morozov, assisted by Mikhail Smolin, equalized (1–1). In the third period, Maksim Mikhaylov gave the Gorky side the lead on a penalty kill, and three seconds before the final buzzer Sergey Smurov scored into an empty net. After regulation, both sides played out overtime and a shootout in a training format: Igor Levitsky won in overtime, while the visitors proved more accurate in the post-game shootout.[2]

Achievements

At the end of the 2024/2025 season, the club became champions of Russia in the VKhL and winners of the Russian Champion's Cup.[5]

Structure and Management

The club's General Director is Evgeniy Evgenyevich Zabuga, and the head coach is Dmitriy Evgenyevich Kosmachyov.[5] The club is located at Gagarin Avenue, 29.[5] Torpedo-Gorky operates in close conjunction with its parent club, HC Torpedo: a portion of the players regularly move between the two teams. In particular, during the pre-season, Torpedo-Gorky players are brought into the main KHL team's training camps as additional reserves.[1] The club also maintains a working relationship with Penza's Diesel, which likewise competes in the VKhL.[3]
