Her doctoral dissertation, "Criminal-Law Regulation and Its Means: Norm and Legal Relationship," was defended in 2003 at the Nizhny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. Criminal-law regulation and its means. She develops the scholarly direction of criminal-law regulation of social relations (concept, subject, methods, levels, means).
Key facts of her career
Author of more than 80 published scholarly works, including 3 monographs and 5 textbooks. Under G. O. Petrova's scholarly supervision, 7 candidate dissertations have been defended. She won a Soros grant for the program "Balakhna Educational Center 'Law and the Internet,'" which made it possible to computerize a classroom at School No. 6 in Balakhna. While serving as deputy dean for research, she organized and ran regional, national, and international conferences, and prepared for publication the collections of scholarly articles "Vestnik NNGU" (Law series) and the youth collection "Russian Law in the Period of Social Reforms."

Member of the dissertation council for the defense of doctoral and candidate dissertations at the North Caucasus State Technical University. Member of the All-Russian Criminological Organization, member of the Educational and Methodological Association for Criminal Law.
