The GAZ-3308 "Sadko" is a medium-tonnage all-wheel-drive truck built by the Gorky Automobile Plant, produced in Nizhny Novgorod from 1997 to 2020. It is the successor to the famous "Shishiga," the GAZ-66.[1]
How it differs from its predecessor
The main difference is the layout: instead of the cab-over-engine design of the GAZ-66, the truck received a conventional (bonneted) cab from the GAZ-3309 family, considerably more comfortable for the driver.[1]
The chassis retained everything that made its predecessor valued: engageable four-wheel drive, self-locking differentials in both axles, a transfer case with a low-range gear, and a central tire inflation system.[1]
Specifications
The truck's gross weight was 6.5 tonnes, with a payload capacity of 2.3-2.5 tonnes depending on the version.[1] The "Sadko" chassis was used to build military, fire, emergency-response, and crew-transport vehicles — wherever off-road capability was needed at a moderate payload.
