In August 2026, Nizhny Novgorod Region received about 18.5 million rubles in federal support for robotization of production — following a competitive selection process run by Russia's Ministry of Industry and Trade.[1] The winners represented the region's machine-building and food industries.[2]
Support mechanism
The subsidies were provided under the national project "Means of Production and Automation", launched in 2025 on the instruction of Russia's president. The federal measure allows companies to offset up to 20% of the costs of purchasing and integrating industrial robots, including their integration into production processes, setup, and staff training. The program is colloquially known as an industrial "cashback."[1] The regional Ministry of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship provided the enterprises with consulting and methodological support at all stages of preparing and submitting applications.[2]
Winning projects
Two of the four projects involve deploying robotic complexes for automatic loading and unloading of workpieces on metalworking equipment in auto-component manufacturing. The third project targets automating similar operations in the manufacture of parts for gas meters. At a food industry enterprise, plans call for installing five four-axis industrial robots for packaging finished dairy products.[3] The names of the specific enterprises were not disclosed in official statements.[1]
Context
According to the regional Ministry of Industry as of August 2026, for every 10,000 workers in the manufacturing industry of Nizhny Novgorod Region there are 39 industrial robots — a figure that has grown by more than 25% over the year. Maxim Cherkasov, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship of Nizhny Novgorod Region, attributed this growth both to companies' own investments and to systematic work in attracting federal support measures.[2]
Among the goals of the national project "Means of Production and Automation" by 2030 are ensuring Russia's technological independence in the production of high-tech machine tools at the 95% level, and bringing the country into the top 25 nations worldwide by robot density.[1]
