He worked at the Gorky PTNII GSNKh, the Gorky Polytechnic Institute, and the Dzerzhinsk branch of NIIKHIMMASH in ordinary engineering and management positions. From 1971 he was a full-time faculty member of the Gorky Polytechnic Institute: associate professor and professor of the "Strength of Materials" department (1971-1988), head of the "Machine Parts and Theory of Mechanisms and Machines" department (1989-2003), professor of the "Materials Science and New Materials Technology" department (2003-2005). In 2000 he was elected a full member of the Russian Academy of Engineering Sciences. He supervised 16 candidates of science, consulted on 2 doctoral dissertations, and is the author of more than 300 published works and 6 author's certificates.
