In the September 2021 election, Krasnov was elected a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of the 7th convocation from single-member constituency No. 16 for United Russia — in that election the party won all 25 single-member constituencies [2][6]. At the time of his nomination he held the post of deputy governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast; his result — 43,087 votes — was the second-highest by absolute vote count among the winners of single-member constituencies [2].
In October 2021, when the leadership of the new convocation was being formed, Krasnov took the post of deputy chairman of the Legislative Assembly [1][3]. He was a member of the United Russia faction and of the committee on economy, industry, support for entrepreneurship, trade and tourism [1][5].
In the final influence ranking of deputies completing the 7th convocation, published in 2026 by the news agency "Nizhny Seychas" (46 deputies were assessed by 14 experts — political scientists, sociologists, and journalists — on three criteria: influence, recognizability, and information activity), Krasnov placed 12th with 183 points (influence — 130, recognizability — 40, information activity — 13) and was placed in the "medium influence" group; compared with the previous measurement, his standing had declined [5].
Move to the Federation Council (2026)
On February 26, 2026, the Legislative Assembly appointed Krasnov senator — the regional parliament's representative to the Federation Council: 44 of the 45 deputies present voted for the candidacy put forward by the United Russia faction (he himself abstained), and no alternative candidates were nominated; he relinquished his deputy powers in the Legislative Assembly [3]. In the Federation Council he succeeded Alexander Weinberg, who had represented the oblast since 2011 and relinquished his powers at the end of January 2026 in connection with his departure for the special military operation [3]. Thanking his colleagues, Krasnov said he would consider himself "temporarily seconded" [3].
On March 4, 2026, by order of Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko, Krasnov was included in the Federation Council's Committee on Defense and Security [4].
In the spring of 2026, Krasnov registered for the United Russia primaries in single-member constituency No. 17 for the elections to the 8th convocation of the Legislative Assembly, signaling his intention to return to the regional parliament [6].
