DeAndre Kane is an American professional basketball player, a shooting guard and forward. In the 2016/17 season, he played for the Nizhny Novgorod basketball club in the VTB United League and the EuroCup.[1]

Career before joining Nizhny Novgorod

Before signing a contract with the Nizhny Novgorod club, Kane played for the Marshall university team, then transferred to the Iowa State Cyclones. In 2014, he played for the Russian club Krasny Oktyabr, after which he played for Belgium's Antwerp Giants and Germany's Ratiopharm Ulm. Immediately before moving to Nizhny Novgorod, he spent a season with Israel's Hapoel, which competed in the Elite League.[1]

Season with BC Nizhny Novgorod

In July 2016, at the age of 27, Kane signed a one-year contract with BC Nizhny Novgorod. The club's head coach, Arturs Štālbergs, described him as "a versatile, tactically intelligent basketball player and a real fighter."[1]

In November 2016, in a VTB United League game against St. Petersburg's Zenit, Kane made eight steals, setting an all-time record for the entire history of the league. Before that, the best mark was seven steals, achieved by several players, including Aleksey Trostinetsky, Frederick House, Aaron Miles, Paul Stoll, and Patrick Calathes.[3]

In the EuroCup, Kane also showed high productivity. In the first game of the Top 16 stage against the same Zenit, he spent 34 minutes 28 seconds on the court, scored 31 points (making 10 of 12 two-point shots), grabbed 9 rebounds, and handed out 2 assists; his efficiency rating was 39. These numbers became the player's personal EuroCup record. Following the first round of the Top 16, Kane was named MVP of the week.[4]

In March 2017, Kane's contract was terminated by mutual agreement of the parties.[2]

In the 2016/17 VTB United League season, Kane averaged 15.9 points, 7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game over 17 games played.[5]

After his contract with Nizhny Novgorod ended, Kane spent two seasons in the EuroLeague with Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv (2017/18 and 2018/19), and since 2023 he has played for Iceland's Grindavík in the domestic Premier League.[6]
