The road from Nizhny Novgorod to Dalneye Konstantinovo via Kstovo is 52.4 km long; by 2026, 44.4 km of it had been renovated under the national project "Infrastructure for Life," with full completion of the repairs planned for 2028. The Kstovo–Dalneye Konstantinovo road serves as an important access route to the federal Nizhny Novgorod–Saratov highway.[1] Daily traffic on the Kstovo–Dalneye Konstantinovo road reaches 15,000 vehicles: the route runs through an industrial zone and is among the busiest in the District. A repaired section of the Kstovo–Dalneye Konstantinovo road, about 5 km long, was accepted by the State Commission in August 2026: during the work, road crews completely removed the old surface, laid a leveling course and a top layer of stone mastic asphalt concrete, and applied thermoplastic road markings with reflective elements.[1][2]

Dalnee Konstantinovo is an urban-type settlement and the district center of Dalnekonstantinovsky District in Nizhny Novgorod Region. It is located 70 km from Nizhny Novgorod.

History of the Settlement

The noted Nizhny Novgorod researchers I. A. Kiryanov and N. F. Filatov assert that Dalnee Konstantinovo dates back to the reign (1341–1355) of Konstantin Vasilyevich, the founder of the Nizhny Novgorod Grand Principality. It can therefore be assumed that Dalnee Konstantinovo is one of the oldest Russian settlements on the territory of Nizhny Novgorod Region. It arose as the "distant" ("Dalnee") holding of Prince Konstantin Vasilyevich, far from Nizhny Novgorod. The main occupation of the residents was farming. As early as the 16th century, Konstantinovo was a selo (a larger village) with a fairly considerable population for that time, and in the early 17th century a wooden church in honor of St. Nicholas is mentioned. In 1827 the ancient wooden church was replaced by a stone one, also dedicated to St. Nicholas, which was closed in 1930 and subsequently demolished. In the 1990s, however, it was reopened in the settlement of Dalnee Konstantinovo.

A new building for the Church of St. Nicholas is now under construction. In 1705 the selo was granted by Tsar Peter I Alexeyevich as a hereditary estate to the state dignitary Semyon Lyubovnikov for his service, as the charter puts it, and for the lasting peace with the King of Poland. A century and a half ago it consisted of a single street, that is, two rows of houses. The southwestern part of the selo served as a market square. On this square in Dalnee Konstantinovo, bustling Saturday markets were held. Traders came to the market from other districts and towns as well. The market was famous for its horses, which buyers came to purchase from Mordovia, Chuvashia, and Tatarstan.

The fame of Dalnee Konstantinovo was furthered by the highway passing through the selo, linking the city of Kazan with the city of Moscow. Along it, peasants carried provisions to their masters in Moscow. In 1903 the physician M. V. Vladimirsky worked here; he later became a Soviet Party and state figure and People's Commissar of Health of the RSFSR. In 1975 a new complex of buildings for the district hospital was built. Since 1930 the district newspaper, "Rodnaya Zemlya" ("Native Land"), has been published in Dalnee Konstantinovo. In 1977 the selo of Dalnee Konstantinovo received the status of an urban-type settlement.
