Alexander Grigoryevich Chernigin (b. 1958) is a Nizhny Novgorod politician, a deputy of the Regional Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Region of the VII convocation, and deputy head of the Communist Party (KPRF) faction [3]. He is secretary of the committee of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the KPRF and a member of its bureau [2]. He received his mandate as a deputy of the regional parliament at the end of December 2007 [4].
Biography
He was born in 1958 [2]. By the end of 2007 he was secretary of the KPRF district committee of the Sovetsky District of Nizhny Novgorod and worked as a deputy's assistant [4].
At the end of December 2007 the election commission of Nizhny Novgorod Region granted Chernigin the powers of a Legislative Assembly deputy. Mandates had become vacant after Olga Noskova, Roman Antonov, and Nikolai Ryabov were elected to the State Duma: Chernigin received Ryabov's mandate, Natalya Zasypkina of United Russia received Noskova's mandate, and Antonov's mandate, held via a single-member district, was to be filled in by-elections in October 2008 [4].
He had also been a deputy of the V convocation of the regional parliament, but did not win a seat in the 2016 assembly elections: according to the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" news agency, he was one of two deputies of that convocation who failed to get through on the KPRF party list [6].
Ahead of the 2021 elections, according to the outlet NN.ru, he was working as senior assistant to a Legislative Assembly deputy [9].
Outside parliament
Chernigin sits on the governing bodies of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the KPRF: he is secretary of the branch committee and a member of the committee's bureau. The current composition of the bureau and committee was approved by decisions dated December 14, 2024 [2].
He has repeatedly run in elections at various levels. In 2016 the conference of the regional KPRF branch nominated him as a candidate in single-member district No. 19 and as the first name on regional group No. 8 of the party list [7]. In July 2020 the Communists nominated Chernigin as a candidate for the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma in district No. 31 [8]. In the 2021 elections to the VII convocation of the Legislative Assembly he ran for the KPRF in single-member district No. 8 [9][10].
In the summer of 2026 the party nominated him for the elections to the VIII convocation of the Legislative Assembly. The list was approved by the XXVIII conference of the regional KPRF branch, held on July 4; Chernigin was placed in the top five of the region-wide part of the list [11]. In July 2026 the branch submitted the nomination documents to the election commission of Nizhny Novgorod Region [12].
In the Legislative Assembly
In the VII convocation of the Legislative Assembly, Chernigin holds the post of deputy head of the KPRF faction and sits on three committees — on budget and taxes, on social affairs, and on the agro-industrial complex and rural development [3].
In the ZSNO–2026 deputy influence rating, published by the news agency "Nizhny Seychas" on August 20, 2026, Chernigin was placed in the "Outsiders. Weak influence" group. Experts assessed deputies on three criteria — influence, recognizability, and information activity — and he scored 35, 10, and 15 points on them. His overall score was 60 points [1].
