JSC "Central Research Institute 'Burevestnik'" (TsNII "Burevestnik") is a Nizhny Novgorod research enterprise of the defense-industrial complex that specializes in the production of weapons and ammunition. It is located at Sormovskoe Highway, 1A. It operates as a non-public joint-stock company; it was registered on April 30, 2008, through the transformation of a federal state unitary enterprise of the same name.[1]
Activities
The main line of business is the production of weapons and ammunition (OKVED code 25.4); in addition, the enterprise pursues 19 other lines of activity.[1] The institute is the legal successor of the federal state unitary enterprise of the same name and retains the research profile inherited from its predecessor. According to the institute's management, the enterprise is a flagship in addressing the scientific and technical challenges of the future development of domestic artillery and mortar weaponry for the Ground Forces and the Navy.[8] TsNII "Burevestnik" is part of the Uralvagonzavod Concern within the Rostec State Corporation.[8] The shareholder register is maintained by JSC "RT-Registrar". The authorized capital is approximately 2 billion rubles.[1]
The enterprise holds 15 licenses and 4 registered trademarks, and also has one branch.[1] In the public procurement system, 4,892 contracts have been concluded for a total of approximately 23.6 billion rubles.[1]
Authority
Since July 13, 2022, the director general of the institute has been Pavel Anatolyevich Kovalev.[1]
In 2020, the institute celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding; the anniversary events were held under restrictions related to the epidemiological situation and included the photo exhibition "History and Modernity" and the children's drawing exhibition "Burevestnik Through a Child's Eyes". The enterprise holds an annual "Best Young Specialist of the Year" competition covering seven categories: "Design Engineer (Mechanical)", "Design Engineer (Electrical)", "Process Engineer", "Research Engineer/Software Engineer", "Best Young Specialist of Support Departments", "Best Young Specialist of the OEP", and "Best Young Worker"; winners receive a cash award, and second- and third-place finishers receive certificates of honor.[10][8]
In March 2022, TsNII Burevestnik took part in the "Best Invention in the Interests of Defense Industry Enterprises of the Russian Federation" competition at the 25th Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies "Archimedes 2022," presenting a utility model called the "Multichannel Hydraulic Junction" — a device for delivering working fluids with different properties to the rotating elements of a combat module. The utility model makes it possible to prevent the mixing of fluids from different hydraulic systems if sealing devices fail, thereby preventing damage to pumps, valves, and other hydraulic equipment; the parts of the product are made of stainless steel, which allows it to be used in marine conditions, and the development is applicable to both military and civilian products.[9][9]
