The issuance of a construction permit for a CrossFit training center in the Sormovo District of Nizhny Novgorod is an event of 2026 recorded in the chronicle of the city's construction. The permit was issued during a period of active development of the Sormovo District's sports and public infrastructure.
Context: improvement of the district in 2026
In August 2026, a large-scale improvement of the public space opposite the "Korabli" ("Ships") residential complex was completed in the Sormovo District. The work was carried out under the "Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment" project of the "Infrastructure for Life" national project.[1] The area of the improved territory exceeded 26,000 square meters.[2]
The Korabli residential complex area is home to about 8,000 people, mostly young families with children. The residents themselves chose this territory for improvement and took part in shaping the concept for its development.[3] The results of the work were inspected by the head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev.[4]
Facilities of the new space
The central element of the territory is a children's playground shaped like a wooden ship, equipped with netting, a suspension bridge, and slides with injury-safe surfacing.[3] The sports infrastructure includes a table tennis area with stands and a fenced multipurpose court: for football in summer and hockey in winter.[2] Bike paths and pedestrian routes have been laid out, linking the new space with Svetloyar Park and the public gardens on Korablestroiteley Avenue and 70 Let Oktyabrya Street.[4] A total of 63 lighting fixtures at various heights have been installed, allowing the space to be used in the evening hours.[3] The lawn area came to about 3,500 square meters.[4]
The contractor was Avtodorstroy, and the contract value was 89.4 million rubles.[2]
Development of the District's Sports Infrastructure
The issuance of a building permit for a CrossFit training center became part of a general trend toward expanding sports facilities in the Sormovsky District. At the same time, in 2026, under the national project, landscaping continued in Nizhny Novgorod on six more public spaces: a square on Kosmonavta Komarova Street in the Leninsky District, the 777th Anniversary Park in the Avtozavodsky District, and four areas in the Kstovsky District.[4]
