He led the transition to new management conditions and trained specialists for 40 major Russian enterprises and organizations, including: Zavolzhye Motor Plant (ZMZ), Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ), Bor Glassworks (BSZ), OJSC "ZapSibGazProm", and the administrations of Nizhny Novgorod and Kirov. He trained at major foreign companies and leading business schools in the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Belgium, and Italy.

In 1980 he defended his candidate's dissertation, and in 1991 his doctoral dissertation, on the problem of enterprise management. Professor since 1993. Awards: in 1977 he was awarded the title of "Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation". Laureate of the Nizhny Novgorod Prize in education (2000). Winner of the Russian "Manager of the Year 2004" competition in the "Higher Education" category.

Member of the Council of Rectors of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. Chairman of the regional interuniversity Council for the Defense of Doctoral Dissertations DM 523.008.01, in specialty 08.00.05 — economics and management of the national economy.
