The Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI; full name — ANO "Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects") is a Russian autonomous non-profit organization that has operated since 2011. It was established on the instruction of the then prime minister Vladimir Putin, who also chaired its supervisory board.[3] Its headquarters are located in Moscow (36 Novy Arbat Street), and the owner is the Government of the Russian Federation.[3] ASI is connected with Nizhny Novgorod Region through joint programs to develop industrial tourism, as well as through the National Quality of Life Rating, in which the region took first place in 2025 in the "Social Protection" category.
Activities
In 2012, the agency received 500 million rubles in funding for three years, and 14 areas of activity and the organization's structure were defined. In 2013, with ASI's participation, the Internet Initiatives Development Fund (IIDF) was created. In 2015, 10 billion rubles were allocated to implement the "National Technology Initiative." [3] ASI's first regional office was opened in Tatarstan.[3]
Work with Nizhny Novgorod Region
In October 2019, ASI, together with the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the company MICEMarket (an ASI partner), and with the support of the Region's government representative office under the Government of the Russian Federation, held a strategic session in Nizhny Novgorod titled "Creating and Developing a Unified Regional Industrial Tourism Program Based on the Universal Methodology of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives." Participants were presented with a methodology for structuring and conducting tours of industrial enterprises; representatives of companies such as Danone, GM-AVTOVAZ, and Baltika spoke to them.[2]
In December 2021, ASI representatives and experts (as part of an accelerator for developing industrial tourism) conducted an inspection tour of the production facilities of the branch of PAO Rosseti Centre and Volga Region — "Nizhnovenergo." The delegation visited the digital city dispatch center in Dzerzhinsk, commissioned in 2020, as well as the Shukhov Tower on the Oka. The Nizhnovenergo branch became one of three participants in the program, along with enterprises from Kaluga and Kursk.[1]
In October 2026, ASI published an analytical report with the results of the 2025 National Quality of Life Rating, in which Nizhny Novgorod Region took first place in Russia in the "Social Protection" category.
