Kirikov Yury Pavlovich (born 20 November 1946) — director of the "Delfin" sports complex, Master of Sport of the USSR in basketball.

Key facts of career

From 1967 to 1981 he worked at the State Agricultural Academy (laboratory assistant, senior lecturer of the physical education department). He built a strong basketball team (repeated city and regional champion, City Cup winner, six-time medalist of the USSR Ministry of Agriculture championships). He competed in USSR and Russian championships. First Master of Sport among Gorky basketball players (1968). From 1973 — sports commentator: he anchored television and radio broadcasts of national championships in ice hockey, football and basketball, of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR (1979), and of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games (as part of the Gosteleradio crew). From 1982 — deputy chairman of the "Trud" voluntary sports society; from 1986 — director of the "Delfin" swimming pool.

In 1989 he took charge of the "Delfin" sports complex. Among the complex's alumni are world and national champions in water polo and swimming, and among its coaching staff are the well-known coaches V. Babanin, T. Antonova, V. Skroznikov, A. Vasilenko. With his involvement the first international water polo match between the national teams of Italy and Nizhny Novgorod was held (1991), a program of services for various social groups was developed, in particular for the disabled and veterans; a rehabilitation method for patients after coronary artery bypass surgery is being put into practice. In 1996 he was elected chairman of the regional Council of the Physical Culture and Sports Society of Trade Unions of the Russian Federation, and became a member of the executive committee of its Central Council. In 1998 he founded the Nizhny Novgorod Organization of Trade Unions of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism Workers. He headed the Nizhny Novgorod Obkom (regional committee) of the sector's trade union.
