Ulmart - an online store selling computer and household equipment
Essence of the phenomenon
Retail chain whose strong points are a wide selection of goods and service (a large, comfortable pickup hall, fast order fulfilment, round-the-clock operation, feedback from customers, including the ability to haggle in correspondence beforehand).
Opening of the first site in Nizhny Novgorod
On 17 December 2011 the first retail site opened on Timiryazev Street. At a press conference the day before, on 16 December, CEO Sergei Fedorinov noted that, going by the chain's growth pattern, one market is planned per roughly 500,000 residents. Dmitry Gerasimov, who heads the company's service division, noted that, given the specifics of Nizhny Novgorod and the region, it would make sense to place at least one more large "cybermarket" (an original term Ulmart promotes as the name for a large retail outlet) in the Trans-Volga part of the city, plus several outposts (medium and small points handling pickup of pre-ordered goods) in major towns of the region such as Dzerzhinsk, Arzamas, Kstovo, and so on. Company management says its goal is to expand the retail network into other regions as well. The main direction of expansion is, naturally, eastward.
Meanwhile, the location of the first cybermarket raises certain questions: the nearest stop, "Studyonaya" on Belinka, is not very well known outside the Nizhegorodsky District and Sovetsky districts of the city; the route along the eastern tip of Pushkin Park from the stop to the building housing the cybermarket, next to the "Gazpromneft filling station, is not the most popular; Timiryazev Street itself is small and often congested, and parking is scarce.
