Russian Women's Water Polo Super Cup 2026 — a match held on 4 October 2026 in Kaliningrad. The Nizhny Novgorod water polo club "Burevestnik" won this trophy for the first time in its history, defeating KINEF-Surgutneftegaz with a score of 10:5.[1][2]
Course of the match
"Burevestnik" dominated throughout the game, winning three of the four periods: 3:1, 2:2, 3:1, 2:1. The decisive factor in the outcome of the match was the teams' play with unequal numbers of players.[1]
The top scorer of the match for the Nizhny Novgorod side was Darya Klyueva, who scored five goals. Anastasiya Adikova and Viktoriya Guskova each scored two, and one more goal was scored by Mariya Alekseenko. The team is coached by Ivan Komarov.[1][2]
Significance of the victory
The Super Cup match also opened the new season of the Eurasian Water Polo League: the victory brought Burevestnik not only an honorary trophy but also its first points in the regular championship standings.[1][2] For the Nizhny Novgorod club, winning the Super Cup was a historic achievement: the team had never previously claimed this title, even though in the previous season Burevestnik had already won the Russian Championship and the Russian Cup.[1] KINEF-Surgutneftegaz is a longtime fierce rival of the Nizhny Novgorod team.[1]
